Auschwitz, the infamous camp in Southern Poland, was the site of 1,018,400(Holocaust-history) deaths including Jews, Poles, Roma Soviet POW’S, and other “undesirables” who didn't agree with the Nazi views.  This murder camp was open from May of 1940 until March of 1942 when the Red Army liberated it.

        In 1943 Auschwitz was made into three camps: Auschwitz-Birkenau, Auschwitz-Monowitz, and Auschwitz.  The camps were designated 1,2,3 by the Nazis, but they all had terrible things happening in them.  Auschwitz 1 was where all the medical experiments were done, Auschwitz 2 was where most of the killing was done, and also it was the first place that zyklon B(Holocaust-history) was used, and Auschwitz 3 was where prisoners were forced to make synthetic rubber and fuel.

        Although this is a tragic event in history, it is important to keep it in our collective consciousness to ensure our youth are educated on this topic, to prevent them from making the same mistake our grandfathers made, and to allow the next generation to make an educated choice on the matter.  This may seem like an unnecessary precaution because we live in a “civilized age,” but that’s what the people in the 1900’s thought.

        A total of 1.1 million Jews alone, not counting the Soviet POW’s and other “undesirables,” were deported from their homes to Auschwitz and suffered far worse than any other people in modern times.  Not all Jews put in camps simply laid down and let the abuse happen like is sometimes portrayed in movies.  Many fought back, but then again the Nazis had machine guns and the Jews didn't.

        This was a horrible event, but it still is important to remember it, in order prevent other atrocities from happening again.
